DON LETTS x ARI UP COLLECTION

ARI UP of THE SLITS created a graphic capturing a moment spent at DON LETTS' home with members of SEX PISTOLS and THE CLASH.

The text printed on the front is a passage from Don Letts' autobiography that mentions THE SLITS.

Below is the translation.

"When The Clash released their debut single, 'White Riot' c/w '77, they were scheduled to embark on a 40-day UK tour ('White Riot' tour) from May 1st, supporting other punk bands.

The line-up, designed to introduce punk bands to the nation, included The Jam (who left after just nine shows), Buzzcocks, Subway Sect and The Slits, who joined the tour in Edinburgh on the seventh night.

The Slits' lineup consisted of singer Ali, bassist Tessa, guitarist Viv and drummer Palmolive, and The Clash asked The Slits to join them, even though they had never played a full gig before.

Both The Clash and I knew them well and were impressed by their punk attitude and style.

We were all friends and we all grew as a scene by banding together and supporting each other, especially in those dark times. This was the first time The Slits had played regular gigs and had never been outside of London before.

They approached me because BOY was helping fund the tour. I was happy to get away from BOY , so I grabbed a few clothes and my camera and headed north with them by train.
